I had a dream last night, at least, I thought it was a dream
I was a full grown man in a Government machine
I wasn't sure of what it meant
But I could tell that it was something to be seen
There was a group of men and they were telling me what to do
It wasn't all that strange or that far removed from truth
But seemed ridiculous to me
And so I asked them what the point of it could be
They said, "It's all just part of democracy in action
And the wheels and the cogs are just part of the distraction
And the seams on the coalface that are cracking
Is just part of the reaction"
They said, "It's only a sign of the way that things are going"
You could feel the acid rain, the wind was blowing
And the TV programme that was showing
Was, 'Democracy In Action!'
I woke at eight o'clock in a really cold sweat
I thought, "There's something 'bout that dream that I really can't forget"
And when I worked out what it was I thought I'd lobby my M.P.
And check him out
But when I tracked him down to a brothel in the town
He seemed a trifle distant and he looked me up and down
And said, "You think you want the truth?
Well, I am the living proof that you don't."
He said, "It's all just part of democracy in action
And the wheels and the cogs are just part of the distraction
And the seams on the coalface that are cracking
Is just part of the reaction"
He said, "It's only a sign of the way that things are going"
You could feel the acid rain, the wind was blowing
And the TV programme that was showing
Was, 'Democracy In Action!'
There was a TV show I was watching yesterday
Called, “You Win Or Lose”, - or something like that anyway
They’ve given up on reading news
They’ve started making up before your very eyes
They put these stories up you decide who’s gonna win
You either e-mail, txt, or you give the show a ring
And when they’ve counted all the votes
The one that got the most wins a prize
And the name of the show is democracy in action
And the wheels and the cogs are just part of the distraction
And the seams on the coalface that are cracking
Is just part of the reaction"
