I was strolling by the seaside on a warm and sunny day
I saw the Goddaughter of Venus arising from the waves
And I gazed at her in wonder and my heart was full of love
As though I was struck by thunder or some forces up above
She had eyes as blue as sapphires, she had chestnut-coloured hair
She had a figure like an hourglass and her skin was smooth and fair
I decided to approach her and engage her in some way
In some kind of conversation, and there we spent the day
She let me light her cigarette
Because her fingers were all wet
An opportunity I couldn't miss
And I count it as a kiss
Well the day passed warm and sunny with a cautious summer breeze
And she told me I was funny and I worshipped on my knees
And my mind turned to romance with my pockets full of sand
So I asked if she would dance and she shyly took my hand
And I asked if we could marry or at least just go to bed
And she smiled at me so sadly and she slowly shook her head
And I asked her, "What's the matter?" and had I done something wrong
And she said, "It's nothing personal." It just wasn't what she wants
She let me light her cigarette
Because her fingers were all wet
An opportunity I couldn't miss
And I count it as a kiss
Well now I'm ashamed to say that I followed her for days
And I pestered her for hours and I showered her with flowers
And I think about it often and it often seems to me
That it can be quite a problem when obsession is the key
But there has to be a reason for those feelings to be there
'cause they happen every season when Spring is in the air
And I can't be held to answer for the things that people do
'cause there's so few forms of pleasure or experiences new
She let me light her cigarette
Because her fingers were all wet
An opportunity I couldn't miss
And I count it as a kiss
